Double red flag. Hope everyone follows it. Never saw this before past many years...like 10 years. Guessing needed based on issues this year?

The double red was newly added for this year. I guess the single red and common sense wasn't enough.

Yah, they also added a yellow flag. I think the change just adds to the confusion of tourists. You're still going to have the guy who says: "I have one week on vacation and I'm going in the water!"

Sadly, this is the case all too often.
Trying to get all of life into one week, and it becomes all of your life.

Yes new this year, the 2nd red gives them the option to fine you too. Nags Head had yellow before, but it seems they are all now using the same flag system in each town.

The confusion starts when red flags are up and they allow surfers, then they allow anyone riding a boogie board. A boogie board and surfboard are flotation devices to a point. So does that mean if I put on a PDF I can go in the water?

In the early eighties there was talk of possibly banning surfers from the ocean on certain days. That was before the internet days so the talk was mouth to ear with a few letters. The authorities made the right decision for two reasons, rip currents pose no threat to experienced surfers, and they are ideal in-the-water lifeguards.

Got to talk to this company and try this on at a Boat show in Maryland. Really comfortable and would be great for boogie boarding on those days were rip current risk is higher. . I am likely going to buy one in the near future. Not as much for the double flag days, but I do go out boogie boarding in the offseason went aren't many people around and will provide peace of mind for the wife and myself.
Also not talking about your cheap grocery store boogie board, high quality boogie board and swim fins allways.

Very cool, hope folks are reading/paying attention. Especially with the current crap in the water it's easier to bonk your head.
Oh, and (I'm sure you wear them) don't forget "keepers" for those "churches"....we see so many "orphaned" fin get washed up

Yea 2 weekends ago a huge log/Telephone pole in the surf. Adults seemed unaware their kids were very close to running into it on a breaking wave. T
