I'm really new at this sea glass stuff so I'm not sure if we have some good pieces or not but we found all of these today around the Jeanettes Pier area. My favorite is the purple piece because my daughter found it and she was SO proud of herself! I'm not even sure if some of them are actual sea glass. Let me know what you guys think of them.

Those are the real deal Jen. It's kind of funny that one of my first pieces was a rare purple piece also. We have a small collection in a jar. I noticed when we were at JimmyZ and Helene's party they had a couple of jars full. Wow, come to think of it we could have doubled our collection, lol!Just kiddin'Bobby

Great finds and the purple piece is indeed a rare find especially a piece that big. We found about a dozen pieces this afternoon and our first real shark's tooth.

She got lucky! They're good ones! I can't think of the name of the shop...it's all decorated for Christmas in the Nags Head Mall, close to Professional Opticians and Yellow Submarine....anyway; they have a hurricane lamp that you can put a candle on top and fill the bottom with seaglass or whatever, beach finds. They have different heights and styles but it's a nice way to store/display your beach finds. Click to follow link... This'll show you when it's low tide down there.Y'all have fun!

Yep they are all the real deal. The purple is a rare find and a nice piece also. Walking the beach will never be the same for you from now on. Your head will always be down. Tell your daughter she has a good eye. P.S. Bobby my wife has a lojack buried in the bottom of the sea glass jar in case someone takes it. Lol! ( I know you were only kidding.)

Would that be the Cottage Shop? I think they are the only ones that would sell something like that.

Pretty pieces! Pottery Barn used to sell hurricane-type candle holders that you could fill the bottom with sand/shells/etc. I got mine a few years ago, but that might be an option for someone who doesn't have access to the shops on OBX. Is there much sea glass found on Hatteras Island? I found a very small piece once (green--probably doesn't count) but then it fell out of my hand somewhere along the way (wasn't prepared with a baggie) We stay in the Buxton/Frisco area.

The purple piece dates back to the early 1900's when magnesium was used to make glass. Although the glass was clear, over time from exposure to the sun, the magnesium made the glass turn purple so that is a primo piece of glass to find. Your daughter should be proud. I only have one in my collection.I find most of my glass in the Buxton/Frisco but since I live here, I look often. It's not real plentiful here but it's here for the taking.

Good to know that it can be found in that area. I still think about the one (my first and only) that got away. I'll be on the lookout. i think someone gave some hints searching a little while ago. As we get closer to our vacation I might beg for some pointers. i think one of the hints was not to wear sunglasses or was it not to wear a hat? Something to do with not seeing the reflection of the glass?

I've read about not wearing sunglasses but I wear mine. They are gray. One thing is I wear no line bifocals but when I look for seaglass, I wear my old prescription glasses that aren't bifocals. It helps a lot since you have to bend your neck a lot more with bifocals. All of my old prescription glasses that aren't bifocals are transitions lenses that darken so I have no choice. My opinion is a sunny day with the sun at your back or overhead is best, if you're going toward the sun,( you have to turn around sooner or later) a rimmed hat helps. Someone posted not to look at the sun, and I'll add, the suns reflection in the water. If you do, you will see green spots everywhere that isn't green seaglass.
